Inspirations

After creating a mood board i have developed my original idea from creating an R&B girl band to a girl band which will categorize into many different genres. Girl Bands i hope to achieve a similar style from are...

Girls Aloud- Known for their Pop Music & Different characters within the band such as

Nicole-Pale, Quirky & Indie compared to Cheryl-Glamourous, tanned WAG.

The Saturdays- Known for their glamourous fashion & Pop Music

Pussy Cat Dolls- Known for their sexiness and R&B/Pop Music.

Mood Board

I created a mood board to develop and inspire any design concepts I had. The mood board I created demonstrates similar ideas to which i hope to achieve in my music magazine. I considered and used anything which is inspired or linked to my original idea. My original idea was to create an R&B Girl Band, but after looking at many music artists i realised that not many R&B Bands are white and the girls i will be using to photograph for my band are all White. I then started to look at other girl bands in the pop and indie genre. I looked at glamorous clothing and accessories hence the:
  • HIGH HEELS
  • DRESSES
  • MAKE-UP
I looked at glamorous celebrities such as:

I also used words which i hope to associate with my girl music band such as:
  • GLAM
  • SEXY
  • PARTY
After completing my mood board I now know that I am going to create a Glamourous girl band which will fit into several different music categories, some of which being: Pop, R&B and Indie.

Analysis of double page spread

I have chosen to analysis a double page spread on Solange Knowles featured in 'Vibe' magazine.

The first thing that strikes me about this aricle is the huge picture of Solange Knowles which takes up half of the second page. The image stands out as all the other images are smaller and are in black and white whereas this picture is bright bold and larger than the others. The background is plain white so this image stands out even more.
The images portray her as a happy lively person as she is dancing and posing in them all. By using these pictures of Solange, the reader will feel the same positive attitude as displayed in the images when reading this article .

This article is descriptive text. Most articles like this either feature this style of text or an interview method.
The opening headline for this article, 'Forget Her Sister', instantly captures the readers attention as many people are aware of how famous her sister Beyonce Knowles is, so the link between fame and relatives is created and the reader automatically assumes by reading this headline that Solange is going to be bigger/more famous than her older sister.
VIBE magazine has chose to include phrases/quotations which Solange Knowles has said, these phrases/quotations are bold to stand out to the reader.

The simple grey and black coloured text is easy to read on top of the white background. The magazine has probably chose to use this colour as there is a lot of information given and if a brighter colour was used it would be hard to read. The black, grey and white also matches the black and white images allowing the single coloured image and the small amount of coloured text to stand out.

Design of my College Leaflet Front Cover

This is my final rough draft of my college magazine. I designed it on MS Publisher; as this is only a draft I didn't want to put too much effort into designing it so MS Publisher allowed me to creat a simple layout. By looking at one of my previous posts "Existing college magazines & mock ups of my design " you can see how i have kept the same layout. However on this draft you can clearly see the logo and badge and the image i have used. The only thing you cannot see is my medium close up image. This is because i have not taken my final image yet and therefore could not add it to the leaflet.
I will use a more advanced computer design program to complete my final front cover and it will look similar to this however it will be completly finished.
